Many Haier and Hitachi models use inverter compressors, which run at variable speeds rather than simply switching on and off. This means they often sound different from older-style refrigerators - a low, continuous hum is normal rather than a sign of trouble. What is worth paying attention to is a compressor that seems to run constantly at high speed without ever bringing the temperature down, which suggests it's struggling against a separate issue like blocked coils or a door seal problem rather than a compressor fault itself.

Common Cooling Complaints

• Uneven cooling between the fridge and freezer sections, often linked to an airflow vent blocked by food storage
• Gradual temperature drift that owners often notice first through food spoiling faster than expected

Door Seal and Ventilation Checks

Both brands' door gaskets are worth checking with a simple paper test if you notice cooling issues - slide a sheet of paper into the closed door at several points around the frame, and if it pulls out easily, the seal isn't tight enough. Also make sure the fridge has adequate clearance from the wall behind it for the condenser to release heat properly.
