Error Codes
Why Is My LG Washing Machine Showing OE?
LG's OE code is a drain error, closely related to Samsung's 5E. Here's how to check the obvious causes before assuming the pump has failed.
OE on an LG washing machine display means the same underlying thing across most LG models: the machine tried to drain and couldn't complete it within its expected time window. You'll usually see it paired with water still sitting in the drum when the cycle stops.
What Causes an OE Error
- A clogged drain filter or pump impeller - commonly lint, coins or small fabric items
- A kinked drain hose, especially where it bends behind the machine or connects to the standpipe
- A drain pump that has stopped working electrically
Checking It Yourself
Most LG front-load machines have a drain filter behind a small access panel at the bottom-front of the machine. Unplug the machine, place towels down, and open the panel slowly - there will be residual water. Clear any debris from the filter and hose connection, then reseat everything firmly. Also check the hose running to the wall or standpipe for any sharp bends.
If the Basics Don't Fix It
If the filter is clear, the hose is straight, and OE still appears, listen closely during the drain phase. A humming sound with no water movement usually points to a failed pump motor or a jammed impeller, both of which need a technician to open the pump housing and inspect properly.
