LG UE Error Code Explained: Balancing Your Load

LG washing machines pause with a UE code when a load is too unbalanced to spin safely. Here's what to do about it and when it signals something more.

LG machines use UE for the same purpose as most other brands - it's a load-balance warning, not a fault code in the traditional sense. When the machine's sensors detect the laundry is too concentrated on one side to spin safely, it pauses the cycle before reaching full spin speed.

Typical Triggers

  • Small loads with only one or two heavy items, like a single towel or pair of jeans
  • Bedding or bulky items that clump together when wet
  • A machine that isn't sitting level, which makes even a normal load register as unbalanced

Fixing It in the Moment

Pause the machine, open the door, and rearrange the load so weight is spread around the drum rather than bunched on one side. Adding one or two extra items to a very small load can also help the machine balance itself out. Check that the machine stands flat on the floor - LG's front-load models are particularly sensitive to being slightly out of level.

When to Be More Concerned

If UE shows up on nearly every wash regardless of load size and the machine is confirmed level, the suspension rods or springs supporting the drum may have worn out, which changes how the machine reads balance. That's worth a technician visit rather than continuing to redistribute laundry every cycle.

An occasional UE with an odd-sized load is completely normal. If it's becoming a near-daily occurrence, it's worth having the suspension checked before it turns into a bigger mechanical repair.
